Pairing Drinks with Oysters

You know that Salt & Barrel is all about cocktails and oysters, but are you aware of which drinks are the most appropriate for devouring a handsome helping of shell meat? You never want to eat them without a good stiff drink, so it’s valuable to know which ones are the perfect complement.
Let us give you the run-down on pairing drinks with oysters.

Drinks & Oysters

Having combed through several opinions on the matter, Salt & Barrel has compiled this list of excellent drinks to consume with oysters.

  • Most Dry Champagnes

  • Martinis
  • Prosecco
  • Manzanilla Sherry
  • Ice Cold Vodka
  • Dry White Wine
  • Dry Draft Beer
  • Pilsner-style Beer

It doesn’t take long to see that more of the consensus revolves around dryer, whiter sorts of wines. A few folks go after beer with oysters, generally the dryer kinds like pilsners or our Clausthauer Lager. You probably wouldn’t reach for an IPA, stout, or red wine to go with your oysters (though nobody is preventing you from doing so).

We don't think there's really a wrong drink to use with shellfish, but there is some continuity towards the dryer alcohols.
